JAMES 5:16-18 The Message
Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with. Elijah, for instance, human just like us, prayed hard that it wouldn’t rain, and it didn’t—not a drop for three and a half years. Then he prayed that it would rain, and it did. The showers came and everything started growing again.

Prayer Requests
•  We have those going through hard times physically, emotionally, economically, and spiritually.  Pray in earnest for those facing medical tests, prognoses, treatments, and/or surgeries
•  Pray for the youth mission’s trip to Toronto, Canada.  May they be fishermen for Him.  Dates: July 13 – 19
•  Brenda is having her last treatment Monday.  PTL.
•  Tyler Priest, son of Van Wert football coach Bob Priest, is in critical condition after being run over by a tractor

PLC Walk for Life

Humor
The man told his doctor that he wasn’t able to do all the things around the house that he used to do. When the examination was complete, he said, “Now, Doc, I can take it. Tell me in plain English what is wrong with me?”

“Well, in plain English,” the doctor replied, “you’re just lazy.”  “Okay,” said the man. “Now give me the medical term so I can tell my wife.”
__________

“The laziest man I ever met put popcorn in his pancakes so they would turn over by themselves.” –W.C. Fields

Answer to Today’s Earthy Trivia
C) Uranus, the seventh planet from our sun, is tipped at the poles in such a way that one pole is always pointing at the sun. Daytime will last 42 earth years.

Factoid
There are 293 ways to make change for a dollar.

Builders Class attendance today: 42. No guests.
A great Sunday school lesson began with 1 John 5:1-5 –
“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. (NIV)

“God is the God of the impossible, as well as the God of the possible.”
~Lester Roloff

Campus Crusade for Christ International Plea
Pray earnestly to God for the safety and release of Campus Crusade for Christ staff that are behind bars, imprisoned because of their faith in Christ.  Some of these women and men were sentenced to five years.  Several of those imprisoned are married couples whose children are left without either parent.  Others are men who leave wives and little ones without a breadwinner.   Won’t you come along side our brothers and sisters in Christ who are facing serious trials.  Will you prayerfully consider how you might minister to them and their families at this difficult time?  As a Sunday school class, we will consider a special offering for these families.

Trivia Answer
Question: What President always wore a red carnation in his lapel for good luck?
Answer: A) William McKinley.

Did you know: On September 6th, 1901, President McKinley was shaking hands with the public at a reception held at the Temple of Music. One man in the line was Leon Czolgosz, an anarchist, whose right hand had been wrapped with a handkerchief. Inside the handkerchief was concealed a .32 caliber revolver. When Czolgosz got up to the president, he shot McKinley twice. A button deflected one bullet that struck the president’s chest. The other bullet pierced the president’s stomach, went through the colon and kidney, and lodged in the muscles of his back. As the president was awaiting medical aid, he said to his secretary, “My wife, be careful, Cortelyou, how you tell her-oh, be careful.” He also told the aide not to let the crowd hurt the assassin.

McKinley was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery. It was decided that of the doctors at the hospital at that time, a Dr. Mann was best qualified to perform the surgery. The president was operated on but they could not find the bullet, so they closed him up and sent him to the home of the president of the Exposition to recover. He started to improve for a couple of days but then he took a turn for the worse and died on September 14th from infection. Ironically, doctors had decided not to use Edison’s X-ray machine to find the bullet because they were not sure of what side effects it might have had on the president.

The president’s was the third president to be assassinated, the others were Lincoln and Garfield, and his death was mourned both at home and abroad. The assassin was tried, found guilty, and was electrocuted in Buffalo shortly after the shooting.

R Problems
A young schoolboy was having a hard time pronouncing the letter ”R,” and all the other kids were, of course, teasing him about it.

To help him out, the teacher gave him a sentence to practice at home: ”Robert gave Richard a rap in the ribs for roasting the rabbit so rare.” In class a few days later, the teacher asked the boy to recite the sentence out loud.

The boy nervously eyed his classmates–many of them already laughing at him–then replied, ”Bob gave Dick a poke in the side because the bunny wasn’t cooked enough.”

Factoid: There are only five words in the English language that end in “dous”: tremendous, horrendous, stupendous, annelidous and hazardous.
In Him we place our hope, and it is a hope that will not disappoint.
1  See your problems as leading you to be more like Jesus – Ask God to help you see how your problems are helping you grow toward Christ-likeness. Ask God to show you how your hardships are working for you and not against you. Ask him to help you embrace a peace that passes all understanding.
2  Skip the ‘try harder’ mentality – The Christian walk is difficult enough without beating ourselves up about the need to “try harder.” Rest in Christ and allow him to give you peace, even as you face hardship. Your ability to “try harder” pales in comparison to Jesus’ ability to be your strength in the midst of trouble. By this, you will discover that God is strongest in your moments of weakness.
